Charles Augustus Lindbergh was an American aviator, author, and military officer who became an international hero in 1927 for completing the first nonstop solo transatlantic flight from New York to Paris. Lindbergh, nicknamed "Lucky Lindy" and the "Lone Eagle" by the press, flew the 3,600-mile journey in his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis, over 33 hours.
